Isn't it interesting that sometimes the person we pray the least with or the least for is the very person we've entered covenant with? We've often taken for granted the sacred gift that is our marriage. Sometimes it feels like our spouses are simply wells we draw life from. But the truth is, it is only in Christ we find the living water that quenches all our thirsts. When Jesus enters the equation of our marriage, we are sustained by him and we are full and satisfied enough to give to our wives/husbands. In Christ our spouse's hands are not simply hands we feed off of but hands we grab and do Kingdom Life with.
Join me today in praying for our spouses. As you pray for your spouse, you'll eventually want to start praying with your partner.
In prayer
your fights will seem silly,
your mountains seem like hills,
and your struggles an opportunity
to become more and more like Christ,
together.
To aid in this holy endeavor, I've added some new prayers on the Abide App. These prayers range from blessing our spouses to reconciliation prayers. Use the Abide App prayers like matches, sparking prayers for your spouse. I hope it helps.
{See Below, I've pasted the prayers here for you incase you wanted to read it as well. Remember, on the Abide app you can swipe your finger downward during the prayer for prayer music to pray! So cool. Ok, enjoy.}
Let's pray.
Abide | Couple’s Series
A prayer for my marriage and my wife/husband.
"Presence of God"
1 | Father God,
I pray for my wife. Give her this day your presence. May she become more and more aware of your presence. And may your presence fill her with peace. May she not be pressured to think or act in anxiety, instead may she be led by your spirit in all that she does. And Father, help me to participate in bringing to her awareness your love, your peace, your presence.
"Reconciliation"
2 | Father God,
We need you. My wife and I need you. We need you to be with us. Our talks are becoming heated, our fights are exposing anger, frustration and fear. Bring to us your love, may it press out all fear, all hurt, all frustrations, so that we can go about the business of figuring out the real problems, partnering to find solutions, rather than cutting each other down. Help us to fight for each other rather than to fight each other. Help us to become aware of the real Enemy, and remind us of our real Hope. You are our hope. Come and breath into our conversations each and everyday.
"Growing Into Christlikeness"
3 | Father God,
elp me to grow, to change. There are so many things I need to grow in, so many things I need to change. But without your grace, your power, your strength, I am left to my own devices. And by myself, I find excuses, I blame, and sometimes I shame others. Teach me to hear what my wife is really saying, what my wife is really asking of me. Help me to hear, help me to listen, help me to serve my wife by growing more and more like you Jesus.
"Empathy"
4 | Father God,
Teach me the art of listening. Help me to understand my wife. Empower me to empathize. May she feel understood, heard, discovered, covered, protected. Teach me to love like you, to listen like you, help me to become more and more like you Jesus.
"Living Water"
5 | Father God,
Be with my wife today. Today I pray for strength. So often I find her giving of herself to others, to me, to our children. She is tired Lord. Empower me to help more. But also, rejuvenate her soul. May you be a living spring within her heart. Speak to her throughout the day. Your word is life to us, your word gives us life. It changes everything. So ask you to speak to her today.
"Serving & Friendship"
6 | Lord,
In you and only in you can our marriage become rich and fulfilling. Teach us Lord to love each other, to serve and to respect each other. Show us Lord how to become more and more kind, tender, soft towards each other. Help us to find things that continually unites us, keeps us laughing, helps us open up, and always becoming greater friends. May we find things to do, things to talk about that enrich our friendship. Teach me how to be my wife’s best friend, teach me how to be a friend like you.
"Covenant Friendships"
7 | Lord,
I pray for my spouse today. I pray that you will bless her with rich and meaningful friendships. May the conversations be edifying, may her time spent with others be God glorifying, and most all, may she experience your friendship and offer your friendship when she is with others. Satisfy her needs in this area Lord. And empower me to become a true friend to and for her. Amen.
"Deep Intimacy"
8 | Lord,
I pray for my marriage today. Teach us how to connect deeply, with joy. Show us what it looks like to really know each other, to hear each other, to respect one another, to love each other well. Help us to become aware and present. By your grace I will consciously rid my mind of all distractions and selfish thoughts that impede and chip away at our intimacy. Help us to make ourselves known to each other in Body, Mind, and Soul. Help us to become aware of this fact, this truth, that when we love each other well, we are really expressing our gratitude to you, the one who has put us together. I am thankful for my wife. I thank you that in your wisdom, you’ve put us together. Now Lord, help us to nurture well what you’ve entrusted to us. May my wife grow under the shelter of my love and I in hers. Amen.
"Generous Love"
9 | Lord,
I pray for my marriage today. Often we are not as tender, kind, and considerate to those who are the closest to us. Father, I find that I am often too familiar with the one I am in covenant with. I ask you today that you will help us turn our familiarity into intimacy. May I become tender, kind and considerate to my wife today. Soften my heart and the tone of my voice. Give me a big heart today, make me a big hearted man. Remove from me, not only an impure heart but a small heart. Make me a generous man today, loving her with a broad open expansive kind of love. The kind of love I experience in you every day. Thank you for my wife and this marriage. Thank you Lord. Amen.
