"Father, we need you. Heal us, heal my generation. We long to see your face, but you insist on revealing your face in Others unlike us. We are uncomfortable with that Lord.
We are afraid,
we are frustrated,
we are angry,
we are hurting...
we simply feel powerless.
But we know you are the God who hears, who listens, who pays attention. We join the cry of our brothers and sisters in our land that face injustice.
Why do my African-American brothers and sisters have to have a talk with their kids about safety from those who are supposed to keep us safe? Why do those who chose such a courageous and selfless occupation in protecting citizens now have to be anxious about the very people they protect?
We have gone astray Lord,
we do not know your ways,
we do not love righteousness and justice.
We are filled with lust,
feeding our anger,
driven by fear,
protecting our entitled state,
we are sinners,
we are fallen,
and we are falling still.
We are guilty;
we are guilty Lord.
And our guilt haunts us to this very day.
We have been set free from Egypt but we have quickly become Pharoahs. Father, forgive us, set us free from ourselves. Make America humble again, make America broken again, make America dependent on you again. In the name ofJesus I pray, Amen."
