Parents Prayers of Blessing

Do you ever find it hard to proclaim "blessings" and prophetic words for your child?

We all love our children and pray often for them, especially as they go down for the night.
But sometimes we as parents long to bless them with thought out prayers that capture the heart of God for our kids. Below, I've pasted prayers of blessings I've written over the years that may assist in writing your own prayers of blessings. Feel free to copy/adapt and use for your prayer time with your child.

Wisdom

Proverbs 4: 7 - “Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.”

Child, I pray for great wisdom in your life. That you would know the Word of God, know how to handle it and use it, always respecting and obeying God’s Way above all other ways. I pray for deep friendship with God through the fear of the Lord in your heart. I pray that this will be experienced tangibly as you respect and honor your parents, learning from what we teach and how we live. As you grow, may you grow in wisdom. I love you and believe in you.

Wisdom

Job says, “But true wisdom and power are found in God; counsel and understanding are his.”

May you grow in wisdom. May you be wise yet accessible and approachable… wise yet humble. So when people get to know you, they will ultimately be glad for they will have found wisdom... and by wisdom, I mean, a revelation of and from God. May your wisdom, rooted in the Word of God, cause many to seek and find Jesus. May your wise living inspire many to live wisely.
(See, Job 12: 13)

Vision

Proverbs 29: 18 - “If people can't see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; But when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed.”

Child, I pray for vision. Vision rooted deeply in the Values, the teachings, of Christ. I pray that God releases his vision, that it will be both clear and desirable. And that all things you pursue will bring Glory to Jesus Christ in your time and great satisfaction in your heart.

Friendships

“A friend loves at all times…”

May God bless you with great friends throughout your life. May you experience true and deep friendship with godly men and women. May you and your friends be friendly to those who are lonely, isolated, bullied… bringing light in their dark worlds. May the friends that you have and the friendship you offer be rooted in the love and friendship we find in Jesus, for he is our “friend who sticks closer than a brother.”
(See, Proverbs 17:17, 18: 24)

Faith

Child, we are called to live by faith and not by sight. May you grow in faith. May you be given the gift of faith, believing in God, his promises and in his Son. May you also believe in his creation, his people. May you believe in people, giving them the benefit of the doubt. I pray that you will become a great servant-leader because you see in them what God sees in them. You will call many to the best version of themselves for the glory of God. You will live by faith, you will live by faith.
(See, Hebrews 11: 1, 2 Corinthians 5: 7)

Joy of the Lord

Ps. 43:4 "Then will I go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight. I will praise you with the harp, O God, my God.

Child, the joy of the Lord is on you. May your life point to the peace we find in God. That in Christ we can always say, “it is well with my soul”. Because God is your joy and delight, you will be able to carry other people’s burdens. Because of the confidence, you will have in Christ, you will be able to be concerned for others. As scripture teaches, you’ll be able to mourn with those who mourn and rejoice with those who are rejoicing. I pray this prayer, that "...the joy of the Lord (will be) your strength." - Neh. 8:10

Mind of Christ

John 15:15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

Child, I pray that you will have the mind of Christ. That you will become an apprentice to Jesus Christ. I pray that your mind be guarded by knowing the things of Christ, knowing about Christ, knowing Christ. That no words from people would compare to the Words of your Master, Jesus. As it is written, “...I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified" (1 Cor. 2:2), may this be true of you in your life.

Dreams and Visions

"And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions.” - Joel 2: 28

This is my prayer for you. That you will be filled with the Holy Spirit. That you will prophesy to the nations and bring knowledge of God to your world. That you will be granted Vision, a purpose from God because you have shown yourself trustworthy through years of discipline, character, by listening to your parents, and being a good sister, brother. I pray that you will find your calling early and that years won’t be wasted looking for identity, but knowing who you are in Christ you will join the Spirit in his work.

Created for Purpose

Psalm 139: 13-16
13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.

“Child, I declare that you were purposed from God’s heart from the very beginning. And because He created you, may you always feel loved by him as well as understood by him.”

14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

“Child, may you spend your days full of self respect and worth, may you never find the need to compete or compare, instead may your life be spent on helping those who do not realize their worth and beauty in the sight of God. I pray that you realize at an early age how blessed you are for having parents who love you and love God. May that bring you a sense of security and hope.”

15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, 16 your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.

“My _______, may your life be one of depth and clarity. May you be an explorer not a wanderer, may you be rooted in your family and your tribe but also always free to be yourself. May you never waste time in doubt and un-forgiveness instead may God take you on great adventures due to your curiosity for Life and Love and God’s Kingdom. May you feel the freedom to explore, courage to take risks, and passion to discover your own sense of self and calling in the time God has allotted for you. We as your parents, celebrate you, love you, and are excited to get to know you more. We bless you, in Jesus’ name."
