Quiet Enough to Hear

I love to pray in silence.

There is nothing like listening. Often He doesn’t even say anything at all. What I hear is his Presence. What I feel is His Friendship.

Come to think of it, one of the most intimate moments with my wife, is when we simply sit outside in our yard, under the moon, in the crisp air… just sitting. No frivolous words exchanged, no business to handle, no plans to write down.

Just enjoying each others’ presence.

I wonder if prayer can be seen this way. The last few years, I find myself talking less to God and simply sitting or walking with him.

What if we really believed it when he said he knows what we need and that he’ll provide?
What if we didn’t come into his presence with anxiety and doubt?

What if we simply sat, under the moon, in the crisp air… just sitting.

"Be still, and know that I am God…" - Psalm 46: 10
